HDTV CableCARD
If the specifications detailed list of many of the current crop of HDTVs and you will see the words CableCARD including many of them, but what is HDTV CableCARD?
Simply, it is a very elegant way to receive HDTV from a cable provider.
Instead of providing a set-top box to receive and decode its HDTV
transmission, the cable provider gives you an HDTV CableCARD slot simply
TV. The card decodes the channels that your subscriptioncan
receiver or integrated HDTV does the rest.
The advantage is that a CableCARD HDTV requires much less space than a set-top
Obviously does not need its own power supply, and reduces the number of cables is
need for cable HDTV. Another advantage is that if you move house, and after
providers change, you must learn how a brand new decoder to use. You
just return the existing card and get a new one from your supplier again
everythingremains the same.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of HDTV CableCARD is the image quality. Wire
companies are not known for high quality components in the set —
top box. Most consumers can see the difference between a decent picture and not a
very good. So cable companies tend to go for functions instead of quality. With
CableCARD your equipment – HDTV tuner or integrated HDTV is not to scale
and display, so you decide how well the imagequality. If the question is
can buy a good or integrated TV tuner and will benefit from improved scalability and display.
The disadvantage of HDTV CableCARD is that at present is one way, so cable
services that require interaction, such as pay-per-view, on-demand
sports season tickets and program guides do not work. For those of you who have a
STB.
Two-way version of CableCARD is currently under development.
