Canon EOS 40D – Review

Canon EOS 40D is the new Canon DSLR model, the position of the still popular Canon EOS 30D. Initially, the EOS 40D appears to be a bit 'to move to a popular model, there are several interesting new features that make it a much better camera.

The new Canon EOS 40D features a 10-megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor, and a new DIGIC III image processor. Same dust reduction technology found in Canon Rebel EOS 400D / XTI, has now found its way to the 40D.Other significant improvements, the 40D is closer to the flagship Canon EOS-1D series. The menu system now uses the same paging system more expensive than the 1D and 1Ds brothers and sisters. The 40D now supports both formats, RAW image recording and sRAW, with a shift from the previous 12-bit on an impressive 14-bit RAW format. Everything is made possible by a single processor, DIGIC III, the same processor used in the EOS 1D. Improving the autofocus system has cross-type AFpoints for F5.6 or faster EF and EF-S series. In a larger, brighter research is part of the job, along with the ability to choose different screens focus. Follows in the footsteps of the EOS-1D, the 40D has a larger 3-inch LCD screen, which is in the final analysis, the Live View. The frame rate has improved by 6.5 fps, even if it was not always achievable in terms of performance testing.

One of the first things we noticed improved ergonomics of this camera special. You onlyfeel "good" in hand. For a pre-XTI / XSI users upgrading from Rebel models, you can win an imediate improvement in the strict sense of the rebels. Build quality is improved and Canon have finally seen fit to include weather sealing around the battery compartment door. Another thing you notice is the sound of the shutter button. Much quieter than previous models XXD. One of the most welcome is the inclusion of the current ISO setting in viewfinder and top LCD display. ItCanon seems finally listened to those who want this functionality.

EOS 40D performed very well in the test. The 10-megapixel CMOS sensor combined with the new DIGIC III image processor, create an ideal system. In the tests, along side the Canon EOS 30D and a competitive model such as the Nikon D200, extending the dynamic range cameras will be immediately evident, especially in areas of shadow. RAW images are usually very strong in-camera. Canonearned a reputation for their lack of noise, and 40 did not fail to deliver. Both ISO 1600 and ISO 3200, images were relatively quiet, and certainly was useful for most situations. There is a new option for noise reduction to remove the chroma noise.

The EOS 40D has all accounts, a very good DSLR and a worthy successor to the EOS 30D.
